A query.

So, if it's better to give than to receive, does that mean when you give someone a present, you're really saying, "Here, and now I am morally superior to you"?

    No.

At least, that's not what I mean when *I* give a present. I'm sure there must be some who have some sort of ulterior motive when they give gifts.

I say no also. They're saying "It's better for *me* to give than for *me* to receive," not "...for *you* to receive."

Two answers to an idle question - never expected this, didja?

  3. And yet--to think about it this way makes me feel better about receiving gifts, since I'm helping the giver to better themselves.

    So there!
